About our pub

The Bell has provided ale and beers to the village for over 500 years, having been established in the 16th century.

Over the centuries, many have enjoyed a glass or two here - from blacksmiths to bell ringers, from weavers to wedding guests.

The Bell was closed in March 2020 due to the previous owners retiring, and the brewery decided to sell the pub to developers who were going to convert the property into flats. However, the community banded together to buy and save the pub, pursuing a lengthy process in order to secure grants and funding to help keep The Bell open.

Support from the Odiham community has been amazing, a real team effort, illustrating the strength of commitment to save the village pub.

Following registration of the property as an 'Asset of Community Value', the lead campaigners formed a Limited Company; 'The Odiham Community Interest Company'.

The sales of shares in the company raised £285,000.00 enabling the application for and successful receipt of a Government Grant which was used to purchase the property and allow extensive repair and refurbishment. The pub re-opened in February 2026.

Continuation of building works was however curtailed by a time limit on expenditure of the grant. To complete the project and secure a commercially viable establishment, the following further works are either in progress or pending, subject to further funding:

  • Repair sections of the West wall

  • Provide enclosure of and fit-out a new kitchen

  • Construct a disabled toilet in the Courtyard

  • Repair and refurbish the First Floor, including new internal toilets.

Over 300 people have bought shares to re-open and renovate The Bell. If you have a connection with Odiham, please click the button below to find out how you can become a shareholder too.
